Destination WA Steps Inside Escape This Northbridge
Escape This Northbridge was featured on Destination WA on 13 September 2026, with presenter Amberley Lobo exploring our immersive horror escape rooms in Perth for the first time.
She arrived with questions. Co-founder Bernie Janes had answers - and a couple of monsters he thought she should meet.
What happens inside an immersive escape room?
“You can expect to be transported to another world,” Bernie explains.
Every Escape This experience begins with a story and a role for you to play. You have 60 minutes to progress through an immersive world, completing tasks and solving challenges connected to the narrative.
As Bernie describes in the feature, the appeal is having a shared objective and becoming the stars of your own movie. You’ll need to communicate, notice details and put your heads together as the story unfolds around you.
Escaping isn’t guaranteed, but beating the clock is only part of the fun. There’s plenty to enjoy in figuring it out together.

How scary is Escape This Northbridge?
That depends on which door you open. For first-timer Amberley, Bernie recommends Dracula or Frankenstein. Our horror experiences come in three levels:
- Spooky - Gothic Unviverse: Meet the monsters of Dracula and Frankenstein, where gothic atmosphere sets the scene.
- Scary - Paranormal & Sci-F Universe: Face supernatural forces in Possession and The Haunting, or an outbreak in Zombie Apocalypse.
- Extreme - Serial Killer Universe: Test your nerve in Buried Alive, Cannibal and Asylum - our most intense horror experiences.
Prefer to skip the scares altogether? Set sail for Pirate Island, our adventure experience for those who’d rather chase treasure than terror.
And if things get too intense, you can leave at any time. Your Game Master will explain how during your briefing.

How are the worlds brought to life?
The feature takes viewers inside historic Atkins House, home to Escape This Northbridge and said to be one of WA’s most haunted buildings. The atmosphere starts before you’ve even entered an experience.
Inside, detailed sets, props, lighting and sound pull you deeper into each story. As Destination WA reveals, the sets, props and audiovisual elements are created right here in Perth at Escape This HQ.
The segment also celebrates Escape This’s first-place win at the global 2026 Immersive Experience Awards, awarded to Hotel Murder Mystery at our Perth CBD venue - a little local imagination making a big impression on the world stage.
