Your first day at Magic University takes an unexpected turn when Professor Blackwood vanishes and the classroom is sealed by powerful enchantments.


Guided only by Corvus, the professor’s watchful owl familiar, you and your fellow students must master curious potions, forgotten spellwork and a series of hidden trials.

+ Panic buttons allow you to exit the room early, if need be.

+ You will be monitored on CCTV at all times.

+ You will not be permitted to play if under the influence.

+ This experience is wheelchair accessible, however some puzzles may be more difficult to access from a wheelchair.

+ One or more chambers may not be accessible depending on the size of the mobility aid and we can only accommodate a maximum of one wheelchair per session.

+ Magic University does not include crawling or tight spaces and is a good choice for individuals who are pregnant, have mobility difficulties or are claustrophobic

+ Magic University does not include smoke effects and is suitable for individuals with asthma or respiratory conditions.

Like most escape rooms, Magic University uses controlled lighting and may include periods of darkness or flashing lights.

+ Magic University requires a moderate level of English reading comprehension. As escape rooms are team-based, participation is still possible if at least one team member is comfortable.

+ For all of our experiences the story narration and clue system is audio based. Guests who are hard of hearing can still participate with support from other team members. It should not impact overall enjoyment as it’s a team based activity, requiring a wide range of abilities.

We came here a couple of weeks ago for a small birthday celebration. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially given most of us had never done an escape room before.   • 🔐 How hard is The Magic University Escape Room?

    Magic University has a difficulty rating of 6 out of 10. A nice entry point for first time players and experienced escapers alike. 


    Magic University is not too hard, not too easy. Numbers, patterns, places for things to go... everything you need is usually right in front of you, you just need to put it all together. Read more about our difficulty levels here.

  • 🚸 Is The Magic University Escape Room suitable for children?

    Absolutely! Magic University is very popular with children's groups who love the immersive feel of finding themselves in the secret chambers of a magical castle. And whilst it is a very popular room with children, adults love it too! So, it's a great choice for a family outing.


    A few rules though:

    1. We welcome children from age 7 to play as paid participants in a family group, though do recommend 9+ years is more suitable for maximum room engagement and enjoyment.
    2. Groups with children aged 9 and under require a parent or guardian be in the room as a paid participant.
    3. If the group contains children aged 10-13 years, then an adult must remain onsite for the duration of the booking but does not need to accompany the group into the room.
    4. If the whole group is 14 and older no adult needs to remain on site.
    5. Children under 3 years old may accompany their parents as spectators in the room, at our discretion, without charge, though they do always count towards the room’s player capacity.

  • ✋ Will our group be playing with strangers?

    At Escape This, all bookings are exclusive to your group. This has always been (and will remain to be) our policy before, during and after Covid.


    If you want to be locked in a room with a group of people you have never met before (some people do!) then we recommend you try another escape room experience provider.

  • 💳 Can I book more than one room to start at the same time?

    Absolutely, if you want to book multiple escape rooms, including Magic University, to start at the same time. Please use our multi room booker to check availability and place a booking. 

  • 🎭 Can we come dressed up?

    You certainly can! If you have ever considered dressing up for your escape room experience we encourage you to do so. Magic University is set in a world of wizardry and magic. Cloaks, capes, wizard hats, round glasses and lightning scars will all help you feel the part.

  • ⏳ How long will Magic University Escape Room experience last?

    You'll have one hour from entering Magic University to escape! 


    We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start time and if you allow for 15 minutes afterwards, to catch your breath and debrief, your whole experience will last up to 90 minutes. 


    You may be one of the lucky ones to escape earlier, in which case your time with us may be shorter.

  • ❓ How many people can play Magic University at the same time?

    The maximum group size that Magic University escape room at our Melbourne CBD Center can accommodate is 8 people.


    Our group limits are set to optimise gameplay and ensure a truly immersive experience for all our guests. Fortunately for you, it is company policy to never compromise on your gameplay experience so these limits are NOT flexible! 


    If your group is larger than 8 players we suggest that you book multiple rooms to start at the same time and split your group across the rooms. Thus ensuring the very best experience for everyone in your group.

  • 🗣️ What if I don’t speak English fluently?

    Spoken cues and clues are a key element of our escape rooms. Presently, these cues are only available in English, though we are working towards multi-language options. To ensure the best escape experience in the meantime, we recommend that the majority of your player group should be fluent in English.

  • 👍 Is Magic University Melbourne CBD a good choice for my first escape room?

    Absolutely, Magic University is a great choice for first time escapers. You will be challenged but our gamesmasters are on hand to offer any extra clues if you need them.

  • 🦺 Are there any health & safety precautions we should know about?

    Like all escape rooms, Magic University is a controlled lighting environment. It may feature periods of complete darkness and/or flashing lights.


    Similarly, you might experience confined spaces and/or jump scares during your escape. If you have any concerns or questions, please raise these with our Gamesmasters at check-in.
